This is a path-breaking book by two dynamic leaders working together to transform not just the north of England, but our view of what's possible in the north of England, and whose ideas on the future deserve all our attention.
The Hillsborough families know more than anyone that this country does not treat all people and all places equally. We also know our experience was not an exception: the same pattern of injustice keeps on repeating down the decades. Really enjoyed finding out what makes Andy Burnham tick. As the interviewer says at the end, the book is a memoir and manifesto. Completely changed my view. Looking forward to AB’s premiership (by a privileged southerner). To add, had never heard of of Steve Rotheram before and while he came across as an out and out Labour man (and probably justifiably angry), Andy Burnham does have the good grace to acknowledge achievements by some Tory ministers. Was also encouraged by his assessment that 90% of politicians go into politics to make a difference and only 10% are ‘villains’. A great audiobook.
