Gone Before The Moon is a supernatural thriller, and is the first audiobook of The Black Veil Files. It's about Duncan, a boy whose world shatters when his best friend Kade disappears without a trace. As Duncan digs deeper, he uncovers more questions than answers, and secrets no one wants to talk about. People with unnatural abilities. A secret organisation lurking in the shadows. How far would you go to find someone who vanished without explanation?

The story is an easy listen. The voice fits really well with the story which is already amazing in itself. Would 100% recommend for others to listen to this as it’s a book you can definitely get super invested in. Great work from the voice actor and of course the author ❤️

Great Listen- would recommend :)

Narration

One of the best audiobooks i have listened to

Listening to this on audiobook elevated the experience even further. It genuinely felt like listening to a cinematic production rather than simply hearing someone read a book.

Reece’s narration was phenomenal. His range of voices made every character feel completely distinct, and every single one sounded exactly how I had imagined them in my head. Shout out to Red Hat specifically.

He captured the emotion of each scene perfectly, making the characters feel even more believable, while his descriptive delivery brought the world to life in a way that this series truly deserves. It was an outstanding performance that made an already brilliant story even more of a pleasure to experience.

Story

What a refreshing and genuinely enjoyable thriller. It felt completely different from anything I’ve read before, and that difference worked entirely in its favour. I was hooked from the prologue.

As the first instalment in a wider series. It made me feel like I was investigating alongside the characters, piecing together clues and trying to work everything out for myself. The pacing is relentless, packed with action, suspense and enough twists to keep me constantly second-guessing everyone. I didn’t trust a single character, and although I’m usually quite good at predicting twists, this one still managed to surprise me.

I thoroughly enjoyed this! Reece takes an already excellent story and brings it to life, and I’m already impatiently waiting for the next one! I can’t recommend this enough!

An excellent listen!

A supernatural thriller for lovers of Supernatural, teen wolf, superhero (gritty and dark), police procedurals and myths, legends and unique takes on some well known folklore. You have a wealthy cast of characters and the narrator does a phenomenal job of bringing each one to life without taking you away from the story you feel each person is an individual and there for a purpose. That is hard to do with audio narration and I loved every second. William has delivered a great story and Reece brought it to life vocally in a way both author and narrator should be super happy with. Highly recommended easy, enjoyable read that promises so much more from this world.

I really enjoyed Gone Before the Moon. It took a little while to get going, but once it did I found myself invested. It doesn't rely on massive, shocking twists, instead it slowly builds the tension, and the second half really grabbed me.

I also loved how British it felt. The writing, the dialogue and the overall atmosphere gave it a lot of character, which made the supernatural elements even more enjoyable. The ending was great and has definitely makes me want to carry on the series.

The only thing that didn't quite work for me was the narration on Audible. That's more of a personal preference than a criticism of the book itself, but I never really clicked with the narrator.

Overall, an enjoyable supernatural thriller with good atmosphere and a strong ending.

A nice British Supernatural Thriller
