The bestselling science fiction series of all time continues! Frank Herbert's second installment explores new developments on the desert planet Arrakis, with its intricate social order and its strange threatening environment. Dune Messiah picks up the story of the man known as Maud'dib, heir to a power unimaginable, bringing to fruition an ambition of unparalleled scale: the centuries-old scheme to create a superbeing who reigns not in the heavens but among men. But the question is: Do all paths of glory lead to the grave?

As others have said, good story and continuation of the incredible Dune universe, but a strange choice to have different narrators for different chapters brings it down. Simon Vance is amazing as usual, but there were a few chapters with much weaker narration quality. One of the narrators also pronounces some dune-specific words differently which is a bit confusing. No idea why the producers thought this was a good plan, or why they didn't edit the audio and direct the VAs for consistency better.

Stick with it through the rougher chapters and it's worth the listen!

Overall I enjoyed the book, and I'm excited to see just how bonkers it gets in the latter installments.

Another fantastic book!

while it is true that the subsequent dune books never live up to to the first. This second volume in th story of Paul and his allies is a good read, even if the perspective jumps around a bit to much at the begining and there are some structural issues the story is good. The narration was equally good, although changes in voices where sudden and rather uncalled for.

A gripping Sequel

I've always felt that Messiah is a bit of a let down in the Dune series. It seems to try to be the last chapter of Dune, while setting the scene for Children of Dune. However this means that by itself, it is not a very good story. It kind of meanders around the various characters from Dune filling up some back stories and looking into their new motives and goals. However after coming straight off of Dune, it seems to take away a lot of the awe from the story and I can't help but feel it somehow cheapens the first book. Anyway, on to Children of Dune!

The production, like Dune, is fantastic. Clear, well read dialogue with a healthy balance of actors, voices and narration. If only all audio books were this good.

Fantastic Production of a disappointing story

It is a satisfying sequel, although not as wonderful as the first novel. The book devekops the Dune mythology to a superior level of complexity but fails to deliver an innovative story. However, id you loved the first one, you'll enjoy this one.
