On February 28, 2013, after pleading guilty to violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act, John Kiriakou began serving a 30 month prison sentence. His crime: blowing the whistle on the CIA's use of torture on al Qaeda prisoners.

Doing Time Like a Spy is Kiriakou's memoir of his 23 months in prison. Using 20 life skills he learned in CIA operational training, he was able to keep himself safe and at the top of the prison social heap. Including his award-winning blog series "Letters from Loretto", Doing Time Like a Spy is at once a searing journal of daily prison life and an alternately funny and heartbreaking commentary on the federal prison system.

Doing Time Like a Spy by John Kiriakou is a gripping and insightful memoir that offers a unique glimpse into life behind bars through the eyes of a former CIA officer. Kiriakou’s storytelling is both compelling and sharp, blending humor, resilience, and survival tactics learned from his intelligence career. His ability to navigate the prison system using tradecraft techniques makes for a fascinating read, while his reflections on justice and government accountability add depth to the narrative. A must-read for those interested in espionage, whistleblowing, and personal perseverance.

The book is interesting and is an eyeopening point of view from a man who served and was wronged by many. But it could be half the length.
There is a lot of repetition in places that add nothing to the story and really slow the pacing, to the point I almost didn't finish the book in a few places.
Did I enjoy it? Yeah, it wasn't the worst.
Would I read it again? No.

Okay but repetitive
