About this listen

Imogen Duffy is a young Irish jockey, whose fledgling career is given a huge boost when she wins a prestigious horse race at the Cheltenham Steeplechasing Festival. But all is not well in her life. She has a violent and controlling boyfriend, also a jockey, and he becomes increasingly jealous of her success. She tries to break off their relationship, but he won't take 'no' for an answer. He attacks her, and claims that he'd rather kill her than allow her to leave him. Imogen flees her home in Ireland, coming to England to get away from him, and to continue her riding career. But the abusive boyfriend follows her across the Irish Sea, stalks her, attacks her again and then tries to ruin both her career and her reputation. Imogen's father turns to Sid Halley for help, and Sid reluctantly agrees to investigate, but then finds that he is also being stalked and threatened. Can Sid find out what the hell is going on, and before it is too late?©2025 Felix Francis (P)2025 Recorded Books Crime Fiction Crime Thrillers Mystery Suspense Thriller & Suspense Traditional Detectives Animal Sports Sports

Excellent narration from both voices. Gripped from the first word to the last. Well done.

Great story. Great twist

A very good Reed and certainly just like his dad‘s books I could not put it down in till I had finished it.

The twist at the end.

Not one of the best in the Francis series but well worth a listen. Too much history if racing for me. Duel narrators worked well and the story was compelling.

Nice twist

I’ve been a fan of Dick Francis and subsequently Felix Francis books for years. Lately I listen to audio books to help me sleep due to tinnitus so diction is really important. Part one read by Anna Burnett is superb and I only wish she had continued for part two. Sadly for me this wasn’t helped by Martin Jarvis who had suffered a stroke earlier this year which has rendered his narration difficult to decipher on occasions. Along with this his portrayal of Freddy Swinton is vastly different and makes for difficult listening as I had already developed his character in my head from Anna’s narration. It was this particular element that found me switching to finishing the rest of the book in print, which was, as always a fabulous read.

Disappointing Audio

I enjoyed being back at the races. I have never been to the races, but you make me feel as if I had been to a meeting.
