About this listen

Bloomsbury presents Coraline by Neil Gaiman, read by Dawn French.

When Coraline moves with her parents to a new house she is fascinated by the fact that their 'house' is infact only half of the house! Divided in to flats years before there is a brick wall behind a door where once there was a corridor and one day it is corridor again down which the intrepid Coraline wanders. And so a nightmare-ish mystery begins that takes Coraline in to the arms of counterfeit parents and a life that isn't quite right. Can Coraline get out? Can she find her real parents? Will life ever be the same again?

Great story and brilliantly narrated. Very easy to listen to and enthralling. I'll be buying more of Neil Gaiman stories.

The film is colourful, while having a creepy undertone, before getting quite dark. I'd never read the book though.
Dawn French is great to listen to (she was also a voice in the movie). As it's a kids book, the language and writing style isn't terribly creative. There are a lot of ....."she/he said" after someone speaks for example.
However, it's short so definitely worth a listen!

Loved the film so ....

short but sweet story that captivates. Gaiman is one of my favourites and once again has not let me down.

creepily brilliant

I haven't seen the film version but enjoyed the audiobook immensely. It is a lot lighter than for example The Graveyard Book, which I highly recommend, but a good piece of entertainment. A book I could imagine listening to with a child (some of the images are scary though so not for anyone too young).
I've loved Neil Gaiman as the narrator of his own books but Dawn French was very good and I didn't miss Neil at all.

Spooky
