About this listen

I am a Christ-centric mystical omnist with gnostic-resonant restorationist spirituality and a radically honest epistemology of faith. Put simply I am a Jesus-hearted seeker who reads everything but bows to One. These fifteen sermons were never meant to stay quiet. Some burst onto social media at 3 a.m. because the fire would not wait. Others were written in silence and kept like letters no one might ever open. A few still carry the taste of late-night nicotine and desperate prayer. There is no cigarette smoke in this book. I traded that for grace and a vape. But there is blood sweat metal riffs desert scrolls hospital tears and every scar I ever earned dragged to the foot of the Cross until it started singing. This is not polished religion. This is not safe. This is what happens when Mercy refuses to stay in the box we built for Her. Welcome to the Cathedral of Scars. The doors are wide open. The Light is already inside.

I am a Christian woman so i love the subject of this story. Jesus Christ and his marvelous love. However i did not find the voice attractive at all. The subject matter is extensive and i do love that. Unfortunately i couldnt give this book 5 stars. I would give it a 3.

Listening to Cathedral of Scars: Fifteen Sermons from the Ruins That Became Sanctuary by Alex Parkview, narrated by Mark Cyr, felt less like going through an audiobook and more like sitting quietly in a sacred space one built not from perfection, but from pain, reflection, and grace.
From the very beginning, there’s a raw honesty that pulls you in. Each sermon feels deeply personal, like someone bravely opening their heart and inviting you to examine your own scars not with shame, but with understanding. It doesn’t rush healing or pretend everything ties up neatly. Instead, it gently reminds you that brokenness can still become something beautiful, something meaningful.
Mark Cyr’s narration adds an extra layer of depth. His voice carries a calm strength steady, compassionate, and reflective. There were moments I had to pause just to sit with what I heard. It’s the kind of narration that doesn’t overpower the message but honors it, giving each word the space it deserves.
Listening to this audiobook became a personal experience for me. It stirred memories, encouraged reflection, and even sparked some meaningful conversations in my home. There’s something about hearing these messages out loud that makes them linger a little longer in your spirit. It reminded me that the hard seasons we walk through aren’t wasted they’re shaping something greater within us.
This isn’t just a collection of sermons it’s a reminder that even in life’s ruins, there is room for rebuilding, for hope, and for peace. A truly moving listen that stays with you long after the final chapter ends.

I really loved this book. Cathedral of Scars is a powerful reminder that we don't have to hide our "ruins" to find something sacred. Alex Parkview has a way of looking at the wreckage of lifeb ddiction, grief, and all the cracks we try to pretend don't exist and turning them into a place of worship.

One of the greatest strengths of this audiobook is its tone. It isn't "safe" or polished religion; it feels like lived experience. Parkview doesn’t preach from a pedestal of perfection; he speaks from the demolition site. This authenticity makes the lessons hit so much harder for anyone navigating their own hardships. The idea that a scar is just a place where "Mercy kissed the wound" is a hard-earned truth that unfolds beautifully across these fifteen sermons.

The sermons were dark and the voice seemed ominous to me. I appreciate the heart that the author put into this. It does show.
