About this listen

At three years old, Alex Parkview walked up to a teenage neighbor girl and announced, “Hi, my name is Alex Parkview and I’m nine years old.” He knew he was lying. She was pretty, and pretty made him want to be bigger. That moment—bold, impulsive, hungry for attention—set the pattern for everything that followed.

In this raw and unflinching memoir, Alex traces a life of fractured reflections: three marriages that crumbled under pressure, two combat tours in Iraq that left invisible wounds, chronic pain that demanded steel in his spine and soon his hip, and the unrelenting echoes of PTSD that turned quiet rooms into battlefields.

From a precocious kid chasing girls and escaping into video games, to a young husband enlisting to provide, to a father fighting to stay present through chaos, loss, and rock bottom—Alex learned to hold the pieces together without letting them cut deeper.

Through trails that grounded him, music that structured intensity, ancient prayers that anchored chaos, a black cat named Erebus who sensed episodes coming, and the unwavering love of two daughters who witnessed it all, he forged containment: a way to live with what persists instead of being consumed by it.

Broken Mirrors, Steady Ground is a testament to survival—not as triumph, but as deliberate, daily choice. For anyone carrying unrelenting weight—veterans, chronic pain warriors, parents holding it together on fumes—this is proof that even a cracked reflection can still show the way forward.

If your a man, book would probably mean more, be more powerful. but seeing as I'm a woman. Seemed deal, just a sad man telling you about his life. I'm not saying the book was horrible. Just not really interesting for a woman. To many bad words and not enough depth.

Not really for women

In a nuts shell this book is Shattered Reflections, Unshakable Strength Finding Your Footing Through All Of Life’s Cracks!
Listening to Broken Mirrors, Steady Ground by Alex Parkview, narrated by Mark Cyr, felt like walking through the fragile places in life and discovering that even there, you can still stand strong.
This audiobook speaks deeply to the moments when your sense of self feels fractured when doubt, pain, or past experiences distort how you see yourself, like looking into a broken mirror. But what makes this story so powerful is its steady reassurance that even when everything feels scattered, there is still solid ground beneath you.
There were moments that felt incredibly personal, reminding me of times when I questioned my own worth or struggled to piece myself back together after setbacks. Yet, woven through every chapter is a quiet strength a reminder that healing doesn’t happen all at once, and it doesn’t require perfection. It just asks you to keep going.
Mark Cyr’s narration brings a calm, grounding presence to the entire experience. His voice carries a sense of reassurance, like someone gently guiding you through the hard parts without rushing you past them. It made the listening experience feel intimate, almost like a conversation you didn’t realize you needed.
What resonated with me most is the message that brokenness doesn’t mean instability. You can carry your scars, your cracks, your past and still build something steady, something lasting. And sometimes, it’s those very imperfections that give you the strength to stand.
Broken Mirrors, Steady Ground is more than an audiobook—it’s a heartfelt reminder that even when life feels fractured, you are still capable of finding balance, healing, and peace.

This was written in casual/spoken voice style. It reminded me of someone who met an old friend who is on a quick layover at the airport and they are trying to catch them up on everything that has happened in their lives over the last thirty years before they take off again. The history was very interesting, although I would have liked a little more focus on the defining moments and resolution though.
