In the Vietnam War, 2,197 helicopter pilots and 2,717 crew members were killed. Black Cat 2-1 is the story of one pilot who made it home and the valiant men he served with who risked their lives for the troops on the ground. Bob Ford invites listeners into the Huey helicopters he flew on more than 1,000 missions when he and his men dared to protect and rescue. For those whose voices were silenced in that faraway place or who have never told their stories, he creates a tribute that plays like a thriller, captures the humor of men at war, and resounds with respect for those who served with honor.

This was a comprehensively written and narrated account of a hero’s duty in war. In depth writing of the experiences of a combat pilot are rarely dull but the recalling of emotion from minuscule moments is amazing and reflecting on this puts normal life into stark contrast.

Thanks for writing this Bob, stand easy.

I enjoyed the book overall, not amazing, not bad, just easy going in the middle as far as Vietnam veteran memoirs go. Several precarious moments, some action and it's interesting to hear the man himself read the audiobook. hearing his visit to the wall was very emotional. The only thing I began to find a little repetitive and frustrating towards the end, was the increasing amount of times the author says how good he was, how hard he always tried, how much he was respected, how much he respected others, how much he thought about the mission coming first etc - this is fine to a point, but after hearing it tens of times over, it gets a bit much. Well deserved 3.5-4 out of 5.

good pilot who really believed in what he did

Love the narration by the the author. It makes you sad that so many young men lost their lives.

Great story of a brave man.

Now, I don't normally like when the author narrates the book, pros just do a better job in general. But listening to Bob Fords soothing voice and charming accent just tops this book off absolutely magnificently, especially chapter 15 when things get a bit emotional. Highly recommended.
