According to Buddhism, desire is suffering—a yearning for something other than what is here in this moment. But desire can also bring passion, meaning, creativity, and direction. So how do we tell the difference between egoic craving and authentic soul desire?

In this episode, we explore the tension between the desires that drain and numb us, and the deeper callings that strengthen, enliven, and align us with who we really are. We reflect on addiction, temptation, spiritual surrender, and the idea that asking for help—from community, from God, from something beyond ourselves—can reconnect us to inner strength when willpower alone isn’t enough.

Along the way, we question whether modern consumer culture has normalised the very impulses once described as the seven deadly sins, creating a cycle of stress, escapism, and disconnection. Ultimately, this conversation is about learning to discern which desires diminish us, which desires awaken us, and how to listen more deeply to the soul beneath the noise.

Featuring recurring references to the iconic 90s anthem Freed from Desire by Gala - go check it out, what a banger.
