About this listen

A built-in family is not what Lady Cassandra Worth intended to take on, especially after having sworn never to marry again. But that is what the reckless, destitute special agent for the crown Colonel Quinten Beckham offers.

When he inherited the title Earl of Rosemont, he was left not only a rundown estate and a mountain of debts, but his brother's two young children. Now he must find a way to raise his two nieces, keep his estate afloat, and continue his dangerous undercover work.

The only way he can see to manage it is for Lady Cassandra to accept his proposal. But can he keep her from falling in love with him, so her heart doesn't break when he leaves her a widow?

Contains mature themes.

You know exactly what will happen in this story, but sometimes that is ok. The performance gets a little grating with the fall of tone at most of the sentences' ending.

Utterly predictable, but sweet

Most of the interesting stuff happened elsewhere - H goes off on government mission for weeks and his wife angsts, but not a single insight into what he was up to, other than a vague description after his return. Problems are solved almost as they arise. Children are perfect, heroine is perfect, hero and friends all perfect. So much goodness is pretty boring unfortunately. Half an hour after unexpected multiple birth, there are multiple cots and wet nurses all present. I thought the bones of a decent story were clearly there, but a good dose of practical realism would add a lot to various aspects, as would more detail about the activities of the only ‘nasty’ characters - the two uncles, who only get a minor mention. Narration very competent (played it at 1.10) except for inability to pronounce library, which for some reason is a lie-bary.

Too sweet

A delightful gentle love story narrated beautifully. One to keep and listen to again. Thank you.
