In an encounter straight out of fiction, Katie might have met Mr Right on the long-haul flight from Melbourne to New York. Richard Sinclair is charming, handsome, wealthy, cultured—and married. In an open marriage, according to him. When he invites her to join him in his lush lakeside villa in Italy as his son’s au pair, it might just be the opportunity for a reset that Katie has been longing for.

The mansion at the edge of Lake Scanno is a romantic’s dream. But despite the perfect golden afternoons, tranquil waters and luxurious surrounds, all is not what it seems. In the nearby village, there are ominous rumblings about ghosts, drownings and the tragic fate of the women who came before her. What dark depths of obsession and betrayal will Katie uncover in this fairy-tale paradise? And when all the secrets and lies are unburied, will she be able to live with the devastating consequences of her choices?

Editorial Review

By chance, or with intent?
What’s better than a December mystery that transports you to a luxurious lakeside villa in Italy? Katie’s instant connection across the aisle of a long flight with Richard Sinclair initially feels like destiny. Richard is magnetic in every sense. The issue? He’s married, though he claims it’s open. After Katie accepts his invitation to work as his son’s au pair, village whispers spread about ghosts, drownings, and missing women at the Sinclair estate. As Katie uncovers what happened to the women who came before her, romance turns to dread. Chance brought her there, but the consequences will leave you questioning every coincidence. —Dawn G., Audible Editor

Well I thought I would like this book and I did. I listened while sewing over 2 days and the plot was fantastic I thought I knew who has done it but and I was wrong. I must look out for more by this author. Thank you audible.

This book kept me interested so much that I finished it in one night. Worth a read.

Brilliant book

Mostly good, keeps you guessing . Katy acted more like a teenager at times, was very irritating when she is so good at planning, then does silly things. I prefer smarter people who get outsmarted.

A reasonably good story

Hhmm…started off well enough, then my interest dipped in the middle & I’d almost stopped listening by chapter 16 (after reading some reviews to see if it got better - it does but it takes its time!)
The narrator does sound a bit bored at times, but I think that's just the Aussie drawl - it sounded a lot like she was saying KADY not Katie.

I stuck with it & while it wasn’t the best book (& certainly not one of JP Pomare’s better ones) it had some good twists & turns & an unexpected ending.

Glad it was free & it won’t put me off listening to more by the same author as all of his other books so far have been great.

Just about good enough.

The first hours were quite boring and after reading the reviews I almost quit the book. However, I am glad that I continued listening since it had an interesting development, although it could be guessed. The ending was somehow hurried and could be done better, some moments of the story are not plausible and leaves open ends.

Improved after first 2 hours
