About this listen

Two trains Side by side for a brief moment In that moment, a murder

Elspeth McGillicuddy is positive she witnessed a man strangling a woman to death.

But it was only the merest glimpse through a carriage window as the trains drew parallel.

She is the only witness, there are no suspects, and, most importantly, there is no corpse.

Who, apart from her friend Jane Marple, would take her seriously?

Never underestimate Miss Marple

One of the best Marple’s, with Christie at her best. I love the clever, witty observations of character in the Marple stories, and this one is a real treat with a host of different personalities. But oh boy, Emilia Fox is awful at accents, which is so off-putting. Why are the Joan Hickson narrations missing/disappearing from Audible?

Excruciating narration

If you could sum up 4.50 from Paddington in three words, what would they be?

Beautifully articulated by Emilia Fox, full of tension and intrigue, the reader takes us with her on an amazing journey.

What did you like best about this story?

Emilias varied voices for each and every character.

What does Emilia Fox bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A perfect delivery of the narrative.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me smile on many occasions, Emilia manages to go from sweet delicate voices of older ladies so cherished by Agatha Christie to grouchy old men and all voices in-between! I do not know how she does it so perfectly.

Any additional comments?

I am looking for more audible performances by Emilia Fox, she is simply an outstanding narrator.

Emilia Fox delivers an outstanding performance.

I fair enjoyed it. A myriad of characters, a country house, a curry plus lots of red herrings to go through. Well read ..

One of my favourite Agatha books

This has always been my favourite Agatha Christie so I was delighted to find it as an audiobook. I enjoyed it but felt that the voices were not as accurate as I’d hoped. Miss Marple sounded too young. Other than that I was very pleased to listen to it.

A good ‘who dunnit’.

Have always enjoyed this Christie novel, remember seeing the dramatised version when I was young, such a great classic Miss Marple story as well as being a superb and murder mystery. Brought so well to life by the fantastic narration who really does it justice especially comparing it to just like watching the film!

A Christie Classic and one of my favourites!
