British-Ghanaian Abena Eyeson writes positive stories about children overcoming challenges in their everyday lives. Running my Own Race, published in the UK by Nosy Crow, is her debut middle-grade novel. Abena won the Charles Tyrwhitt Children's Sports Book of the Year in 2026. She's also won the junior fiction category of the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards 2026. The book has also been longlisted and shortlisted for a number of other UK book awards including being shortlisted for the Peters Children's Book of the Year 2026 and the Spark School Book Award 2026. The book was included in the round-up of best children's books of 2025 in the UK for Amazon, Waterstones and LoveReading4Kids. Abena wrote Our Family Family, an educational narrative non-fiction book, for Oxford University Press. Looking Up, a novel for teens, was self-published in 2019.
