What do you want when no one is watching?
What do you want, when the lights are off?
What do you want, when you are anonymous?

When we talk about sex, we talk about womanhood and motherhood, infidelity and exploitation, consent and respect, fairness and egalitarianism, love and hate, pleasure and pain. And yet so many of us don’t talk about it at all.

In this groundbreaking book, Gillian Anderson collects and introduces the anonymous sexual fantasies of women from around the world (along with her own anonymous submission). They are all extraordinary: full of desire, fear, intimacy, shame, satisfaction and, ultimately, liberation. From dreaming about someone off-limits to conjuring a scene with multiple partners, from sex that is gentle and tender to passionate and playful, from women who have never had sex to women who have had more sex than they can remember, these fantasies provide a window into the most secret part of our minds.

Want reveals how women feel about sex when they have the freedom to be totally themselves.

I love Gillian Anderson, and her bits were 👌🏼
This is just short essays from women about their sexual fantasies. It's interesting and sometimes quite emotional, but does kinda get a bit samey after a while. Better if you just listen to a wee bit at a time. It also felt like it was aimed much more towards queer women. As a heterosexual, I didn't get as much out of it as I would have liked

It was fine

Unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Extremely unique but often repetitive, all in all a lovely and exciting read.

Riveting stories

I found it to be a little tame in places. We are now many years on from the ground breaking Nancy Friday book, and yet it seems we’ve become more conservative.

Exceptional performances

A real eye opener of a book. Not at all what I thought it would be in the slightest. It goes beyond acts of pleasure and lustful desires. The anonymous fantasies and stories of sexuality and intimacy tell a story of how suppressed and sexually stunted women are, all over the world. The patriarchy has ALOT to answer for; violence against women, the load of motherhood and the eternal expectation to be a female that fits a certain criteria holds so many of us back. The fairer sex most certainly has the rougher ride in life and that includes the bedroom (pun completely intended). The amazing Gillian Anderson has unearthed something of true beauty here. The words of the anonymous women featured in this book will stay with me for a long time after this last page.

Not at all what I was expecting
